Impressed by the flora and fauna of this isolated place in the Indian Ocean, Birgitta Gerda Holenstein moved to Mauritius from her native Switzerland in 2001, and started exploring the world of endemic flowers. It was an exciting adventure to get to know the island and its wonderful nature sites and consequently she produced her “CORESSENCES”, a range of environmental essences corresponding to the elements.

Together with partner Jacqueline Talbot, she then set out to create the “NaturEssences”, flower essences made from endemic and imported flowers on Mauritius Island. While on the job, the two not only learned to appreciate the unique nature of this tropical island, but also recognised how important it is to preserve it. 

As Jacqueline left the company to take care of her two children, Birgitta continued her work with Vikash C. Ramsurn, a local therapist and healer specialised in Ayurveda and holistic massage techniques. Together they are expanding the product line and also incorporate new ideas and concepts. 

Through publishing and promoting the plants of Mauritius in their work, they are eager to contribute to their protection and preservation.
